University of Southern Denmark

CAST (Centre for Applied Health Services Research) is a part of the Institute of Public Health at University of Southern Denmark, which has its main research competencies in the areas of health economics, epidemiology, clinical pharmacology, general practice and environmental medicine. Headed by Jens Olsen, the centre employs about 10 full-time researchers specialized in the evaluation of new and existing health care technologies. Its researchers participate in several working groups and strategy panels related to health technology assessment – often as project leaders or process consultants - in the conduction of multidisciplinary and multicentre projects where project partners include the new regions of Denmark, municipalities, hospitals, patient organisations and the industry. CAST has a broad network consisting of Danish and international researchers and, in particular, there is an agreement between CAST and the Danish Centre for Evaluation and Health Technology Assessment (under the Danish National Board of Health) stating CAST’s role in the evaluation of Danish health care technologies.
